Ok folks, I had my first Cabbage Whites (Pieris rape) of the year today. I guess it is official butterfly season now.
Also today, a Morning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa) was seen at Dansville SGA.
With the Cabbage White, my Michigan year list stands at 3 species.
The weather is not supposed to improve much over the next week or so. It seems species are at least a week to 10 days behind normal emergent dates.
Good Butterflying
Well done on your Cabbage Whites. I am surprised that your butterfly season is behind ours in Scotland, considering that we are quite a bit further north than you are! We have eight species flying around just now.
ReplyDeleteOur brutal Winter and very cool spring so far has kept our butterflies from emerging. Michigan has only had about 5 species reported so far. We should have at least 8-10 species on the wing right now.
