Newaygo Prairie Plant Preserve

On May 21, my son David and I visited two sites in Newaygo County. We were looking for prairie species that had eluded us in past years. Our first stop was the Newaygo Prairie Plant Preserve. It took several hours, but we found what we were looking for. We found Cobweb Skippers and Dusted Skippers. Also present was Northern Cloudywing, American Lady, and Eastern Pine Elfins.
Our second stop was just down the road at the Karner Blue Preserve. We felt that we were a little early for Karner Blues, but we did manage 1 individual. Also seen here was a Persius Duskywing.
An excellent day on the prairies.
