Cold, wet and cloudy Spring

Michigan has not been kind to butterflies so far in 2019. Much of the spring has been cold, cloudy windy and rainy. Most butterflies are running a week to 10 behind average emergent dates. Yesterday, May 25, 2019, seemed like the first day where multiple spring and late spring butterflies made an appearance.
A visit to Flat River SGA in Montcalm County was the most productive day so far this year. Seen in the state game area were the following species.
Cabbage White, Clouded Sulphur, Eastern Tailed Blue, Spring Azure, Silvery Blue, Monarch, Red Admiral,  Juvenal's Duskywing and Common Roadside Skipper.
