Where did the Summer go?

Wow! The Summer flew by. It is amazing how fast time seems to go by. It has been a excellent year here in Michigan for butterflies. A friend just reported an excellent list of butterflies from October 3 from Allegan and Hillsdale Counties. Yes, it was 80 degrees that day!
This past August 11, I followed a previous report to a location for Pipevine Swallowtails in Michigan.
I was lucky to get a decent shot of a well worn individual. This species marked my 122 species for Michigan.

Normally we get a few warm days suitable for butterflies in October and November. Michigan has had very few American Snouts (Libytheana carinenta) reported in 2018. Hopefully more are on the way.

  1. Your season sounds very similar to ours. We had a great day last week with nine different species reported to me. Then we had torrential rain all day Friday and Saturday. I will saw one butterfly today, though!
