Michigan's butterfly season is over for 2025.
According to Inaturalist, Michigan butterfliers reported 134 species for 2025. The 134 species reported is a Michigan record.
In 2024, Michigan reported 128 species on Inaturalist.
Without much effort, my personal total for 2025 was 79 species, which is right at my average over the last 5 years.
The latest date that I saw butterflies was 6 November. On this date I had 2 Eastern Comma's and 1 Clouded Sulphur.
The coming year:
I am still thinking about what I want to do in 2026. There are many challenges that I would like to try.
At some point I would like to do a Michigan butterfly BIG year. The current Michigan record is 110. But it might be 104. I'll have to check.
Hope your butterflying was fun and successful in 2025.
