Wilderness SP Butterflies and Botany

June 14, 15,16 (last weekend) my girlfriend Jackie and I went to Mackinaw City for the weekend. Our main focus (beside a relaxing weekend) was to find Ram's Head Lady Slipper. We saw many.
We also found a few species of butterflies.
On the trip up from Lansing, we saw Canadian Tiger Swallowtails in every county north of Isabella. At rest stops we found several Northern Crescents and a few Cabbage Whites.
Wilderness State Park, 11 miles west  of Mackinaw City (in Emmet County) we saw several Canadian Tiger Swallowtails, Spring Azures, Northern Crescents and a Mourning Cloak.

Papilio canadensis (Canadian Tiger Swallowtail) at entrance to Wilderness SP.
                                                                      June 15, 2013

If you have not visited Wilderness State Park, you should. Wilderness SP has many interesting plants.
We saw three species of orchids, butterworts, Indian Paint Brushes, and Michigan's state flower, Dwarf Lake Iris.

Allegan SGA

A friend of mine gave me directions to a site in Allegan SGA for Olympia Marbles (Euchloe olympia). So this past Sunday I made the trip (for the second time this year) in hopes of seeing and photographing this beauty. For the second time this year, I failed to locate any marbles. There were plenty of host plants in the areas I looked, but no marbles. Maybe next year.
I did not walk away empty handed.
My list for the day:
Black Swallowtail - 1
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail - 1
Spicebush Swallowtail - 1
Karner Blue - 2
Mourning Cloak - 1
Red-spotted Purple (L.a. astyanax) - 2
Little Wood Satyr - 12
Northern Cloudywing - 2
Indian Skipper - 3

Wish it was better

I cut and paste alot. Seems like many don't turn out the way they look in my documents.

Still cloudy cool and a little rainy here in Michigan. New species are slowly making apperances.
Peck's Skippers are new in the last week here in the Lansing area.
